The time has come! Beets has made her arrival. She weighed in at 8 1/2 pounds and arrived Wednesday, August 6th, making Ruggie an official big brother...he even has the shirt to prove it. Labor was induced at 5:30 that morning, although we had to be at the hospital by 4:30. I had contractions until about 9am when the blessed anesthesiologist came in and hit me up with an epidural. Beets was out by 1:08pm. Oh, my little red-faced chunker bottom. She is a beauty, if I do say so myself.
So far, she sleeps a good 4 hour chunk through the night, which is great! My milk came in (finally) last night, so she has been sleeping a bit more today with all the sweet, sweet mama milk. Also, her poops have become a bit more explosive because of it...naturally, like we did with Ruggie, we panicked when my milk did not come in right away, so a late-night call to La Leche League was made, of course. As soon as I talked to the LLL lady and she put me at ease, literally, my milk came in about ten minutes later. Beets didn't know what to do with all the milk and most of it ended up all around her mouth, but she is doing much better today.
In Ruggie news, his transition to big brother has been pretty smooth. We eased the transition by getting him a train set which he has been attached to since this morning (the morning of the REVEAL!). What is cute is that when we go in there with him, he comes out to check on his sister in her bassinet in the living room and once he even brought back a picture of her as if to remind us that she is out there. Haha! All in all, a wonderful big brother in the making.
And, he strung two words together this morning. From the bedroom window, when we are putting him to sleep, we can see the moon which he points out. This morning, when we woke up, he looked out the window and said, "Bye, moon!" What the?! My sweet baby boy!
